10 December 2002, 12:39 UK October - Global Trade In Goods Deficit Hit
The global trade in goods deficit hit a record high in October, and
came in well above the MNI median for a Stg2.9bn shortfall. The trade
balance with both the EU and non-EU areas deteriorated. The non-EU trade
gap, at Stg2.355bn, was the largest since Dec 2001. The data highlighted
the problems facing UK exporters. Total exports, including services,
fell 2.7% to Stg21.365bn, and well below the recent peak of Stg23.578bn
recorded in May. The figures continue to show how net trade is acting as
a brake on UK growth.//www.marketnews.com
