US Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill expects to seen an upward revision to third quarter growth figures when they are published tomorrow The preliminary figures estimated growth of 3.1pc over the three months, and economists expect that to be revised up to 3.7pc, That would be almost triple the pace of growth seen in the previous quarter, when the US economy expanded by just 1.3pc In a keynote address to the Confederation of British Industry's annual conference, O'Neill was also optimistic about the prospects for the US economy, indicating that growth in the second half of next year is likely to be around the 3.5-4.0pc level. He added that US president George Bush will propose new measures to stimulate the economic recovery early in 2003. He did not specify what the measures might be but it is speculated that a variety of tax cuts is being considered, along with further help to the unemployed//www.fxcentre.com
