EU enlargement has been postponed for for a further four months to allow the proposed ten new member states to ratify accession treaties which will be signed in Athens in April 2003. This effectively means that May 2004 is the date on which the new members will join the EU. At a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels yesterday, it was agreed that the new members needed that little bit more time althoug commissioners from the countries will be without portfolios until October 2004 when commission appointments will be made. //www.fxcentre.com
