German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder today promised E1bn to help developing countries gain access to clean, efficient energy. Citing the contribution that man has made to global warning, Schroeder urged the world leaders at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. He furthered his commitment to green energy by announcing he will host a conference on renewable energy next year. "There has been a dramatic increase in extreme weather conditions and it shows one thing very clearly, that climate change is no longer only a sceptical forecast, it is a reality, wherever we are on a global scale, in all of the continents and nearly in all countries by now," Schroeder said. "This co-operation is going to be funded by Germany by a good E500m over the next five years, and another E500m are going to be spent for an increase in energy efficiency and energy use efficiency too," he added. //www.fxcentre.com
