18 September 2002, 10:32  Forex - Dollar eases in midafternoon Tokyo; waiting for more BoJ details

The dollar was easier in midafternoon, with investors waiting for details from a briefing by Bank of Japan governor Masaru Hayami after monetary policy was left unchanged at today's board meeting, dealers said. The bank issued a statement accompanying its decision that it is ready to stabilise the financial system if necessary.
Policy board members also entered another meeting immediately after their decision to discuss financial market stabilisation, although a bank official stressed that this would not discuss monetary-policy measures."The main point is from the monetary policy point of view there's really no change" to the key market focus, which was expanded monthly government bond purchases or buying exchange-traded funds said Hiroyuki Mukaibo, forex chief at Lehman Brothers.
"On using ETFs, there was a low probability of that coming out," he said."The only thing is what's related to trying to stabilise the system. Hayami's going to make a speech," he said, dding the market will be waiting to see if the bank still avoids making any substantial policy changes.//www.ananova.com
