http://www.nj.com// LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold fell.
The euro was quoted at 96.83 cents in late European trading, down from 97.03 cents on Wednesday. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro traded at 96.82 cents.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared to late Wednesday, included 120.69 Japanese yen, up from 120.41; 1.5080 Swiss francs, up from 1.5035; and 1.5822 Canadian dollars, up from 1.5821.
The British pound was quoted at $1.5299, down from $1.5334.
In midday trading in New York the dollar bought 120.72 yen and the pound was worth $1.5298.
Gold closed in London at $310.50 bid per troy ounce, down from $313.70 on Wednesday.
In Zurich the bid price was $311.15, down from $312.45.
Gold rose $4.10 in Hong Kong to close at $313.25.
Silver closed in London at $4.64 bid per troy ounce, down from $4.67.
