Retail sales growth slowed sharply in May, but is expected to accelerate in June, the CBI's latest distributive trades report showed Wednesday. The balance of reported sales fell to +25% in May from +57% in April, the lowest reading since October 2001. The CBI said that annual retail sales growth had reverted back to the trend reported in January, suggesting that a slowdown in spending is starting to take effect.
