20 June 2002, 16:47  US Q1 current account deficit 112.5 bln usd vs revised 95.1 bln in Q4

WASHINGTON (AFX) - The current account deficit widened to a record 112.5 bln usd in the first quarter from a revised 95.1 bln deficit in the fourth quarter, the Commerce Department said. The deficit was much bigger than expected. The consensus forecast of Wall Street economists had been for the current account deficit to widen to 105.6 bln usd. The current account deficit in the fourth quarter had originally been reported as 98.8 bln usd.
