TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - The Tokyo-area April consumer price index rose 0.2 pct month-on-month after a rise of 0.3 pct in March, the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications said. Year-on-year, April CPI declined 1.3 pct, following a fall of 1.2 pct in March, it said. Excluding fresh food prices, Tokyo-area CPI was down 0.1 pct month-on-month after rising 0.3 pct in March. Core CPI fell 1.1 pct year-on-year, following a 0.7 pct decline in March, it said. Private-sector had economists forecast Tokyo April CPI would decline 0.9-1.4 pct year-on-year, with a consensus of a fall of 1.2 pct, with core CPI declining 0.5-0.9 pct and a consensus of a fall of 0.8 pct.
