6 February 2002, 19:31 ABC/Money: US Consumer Confidence Unchanged In Latest Wk
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--U.S. overall consumer confidence was unchanged in the
week ended Feb. 3, according to the latest ABC News/Money Magazine poll.
The consumer comfort index came in at -12, the same level as the previous
week.
According to the latest survey, 33% of respondents expressed confidence in
the economy, down from 34% the week before. Also, 58% of those polled said
their own finances were in good standing, unchanged from the prior week. In
addition, 41% of respondents assessed the buying climate as good, up from 40%
the week before.
The consumer comfort index was based on a random survey of 1,029 respondents
nationwide ended Feb. 3. The index measures typical Americans' confidence in
three areas: the national economy, their own finances, and their willingness
to spend money, according to the report.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
