27 February 2002, 11:47 U.S. shares ended little changed Tuesday
in a light session ahead of Federal Reserve chairman Greenspan's talk to Congress. The S&P 500 slipped 0.06 to 1109.38, while the Nasdaq Composite slipped 3.02 to
1766.86. The Dow Industrials lost 30.45 to 10115.26. Volumes turned
light after a run of moderately active sessions. Accounting worries
eased again with no significant corruption stories to report. Dealers
said the unexpected drop in the U.S. Conference Board's consumer
confidence index was the biggest event of the day. Spurious reports of
U.S. troops landing in Iraq raised some confusion at mid-morning, but
did little to hurt the market. The reports were denied by the Pentagon.
