TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Retail sales fell 2.0 pct year-on-year in January after declining by a revised 2.6 pct in December, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.
The ministry provided the following January year-on-year data:
Department store sales - up 0.1 pct
Supermarket sales - down 3.5 pct
Food and beverage sales - down 0.1 pct
Clothing sales - down 1.9 pct
Others - down 4.9 pct
