Despite rise, for the second consecutive month, weakness on the employment front persisted, Philadelphia Fed economist Michael Trebing said Thursday. The diffusion index rose to 16.0 in February versus 14.7 in January and -12.6 in December. Of the companies polled, 32.4% reported an increase in activity while 50.8% saw no change and 16.4%, a decrease.
