Japanese officials were at pains Friday to stress there was no need for a public injection of funds into the banking system at the present time. Japan's Vice Economics Minister Yuzo Kobayashi said the cabinet was agreed on the matter. Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa had said it would not be possible to forcibly inject public funds into banks.
