20 February 2002, 09:31  The greenback clawed its way higher late in the New York session

The greenback clawed its way higher late in the New York session, despite further declines in U.S. equity markets. U.S. equities were down on concerns that more negative accounting surprises may be seen in the near future, analysts said. The euro-dollar closed at $0.8760, down from earlier highs near $0.8780. Euro-yen closed at Y117.12, up from Asian session lows near Y115.50 The dollar-yen closed at Y133.63. This was still much higher than the Asian session where the pair hit lows near Y132.65, traders said.
