11 February 2002, 14:58  U.S. shares recovered in late session Friday

and managed to close in positive territory, with the S&P 500 up 16.05 points or 1.49% at 1096.22. The Dow Industrials were up 118.80 points or 1.23% at 9744.24, after a drop below 9600. The technology heavy Nasdaq Composite retraced early losses to close at 1818.88, up 36.77 points or 2.06%. Earlier Friday, dealers said accounting questions continued to dog investor sentiment, weighing on share prices. The number of companies under suspicion remains small but grows.
