1 February 2002, 14:08 Japan enacts second extra budget worth 2.6 trln yen
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - The government enacted a 2.6 trln yen second
supplementary budget for the year to March after it was approved by the
upper house, officials said.
The supplementary budget cleared the upper house three days after
the ruling coalition pushed it through the lower house in a vote
boycotted by opposition parties.
"The budget passed through the upper house after 136 voted for the
bill against 95 at the plenary session," a parliament official said.
"With the passage, the bill is now enacted," the official said.
According to the bill, the government will use reserves from past
sales of shares in Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp to fund the
budget.
On Nov 16, parliament approved a first extra budget worth 25 bln
usd for the current fiscal year, aimed at fighting record high
unemployment.
