30 January 2002, 13:38  Germany cuts 2002 growth forecast to around 0.75 pct from 1.25 - UPDATE

BERLIN (AFX) - The German government officially revised downwards its growth forecast for the current year, predicting the euro zone's biggest economy will expand by around 0.75 pct in 2002, compared with its previous forecast of 1.25 pct. The finance ministry said the annual report on the economy also estimated inflation of nearly 1.5 pct this year compared with 2.5 pct last year. It said the average jobless number this year will be slightly below 4 mln but the labour market will improve in the course of the year.
