3 January 2002, 11:26 SNB's Roth says launch of euro will not push Swiss interest rates higher
ZURICH (AFX) - Swiss National Bank (SNB) president Jean Pierre Roth
said he does not expects the launch of euro notes and coins to push
interest rates in Switzerland higher, Swiss daily Blick reported.
Speaking in an interview with the newspaper, Roth said the physical
introduction of the euro will hardly have an impact on its exchange
rate versus the Swiss franc.
Switzerland is already following in the wake of the European
Central Bank, Roth said, adding a strengthening of the euro will
further increase this tendency.
