Steven K. Beckner wrote Monday that Federal Reserve two-day meeting starting Tuesday won't be meaningless or uneventful after Greenspan's rectification of economic outlook. The FOMC's policy statement will still be of great interest and can be expected to retain a balance of risks weighted toward "economic weakness." More important, the policy statement will be parsed for insights into how long the Fed is predisposed to keep rates low. The FOMC's task over the next two days includes strategizing for the first half of the year and tentatively beyond.
