25 January 2002, 12:38  Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan did not rule out the possibility that further fiscal stimulu

will be needed in congressional testimony Thursday, but indicated improved economic prospects and diminished budget surplus projections make more tax cuts or other stimulus less desirable at this juncture. Greenspan, testifying before the Senate Budget Committee, said "it's conceivable we'll need some additional stimulus." He added "it is very difficult to judge," but if the economic recovery is "more temperate than we would like, later this year some form of stimulus program probably would be useful." "But we don't know that yet," he continued. "In other words, it's very difficult to judge exactly how this year is going to (unfold)."
