7 December 2001, 09:30  Japan Oct household spending up 0.4 pct yr-on-yr

TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Household spending in October rose 0.4 pct year-on-year following a 3.7 pct decline in September, the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs and Telecommunications said. Telecommunications and transport registered the biggest spending increase of 14.3 pct year-on-year, followed by furniture with a 5.0 pct rise.
Spending for medication rose 4.4 pct, it said. The largest decline in October was seen in clothing, down 4.9 pct year-on-year, followed by entertainment, which fell 4.0 pct. Spending for utilities was down 3.7 pct, it added.
