6 December 2001, 15:53  Euro steady after ECB leaves rates unchanged

LONDON, Dec 6 - The euro was steady against major currencies on Thursday after the European Central Bank left interest rates unchanged at 3.25 percent, as expected. The central bank has already cut the cost of borrowing by a full percentage point since the September 11 attacks and has recently indicated that current rates are appropriate. Dealers said the focus was now shifting to a news conference by ECB President Wim Duisenberg at 1330 GMT for clues on future euro zone monetary policy.
