6 December 2001, 14:06  German oct manufacturing orders down 0.9 pct from Sept

BERLIN (AFX) - German manufacturing orders rose fell a seasonally adjusted 0.9 pct in October from September and were down an unadjusted 6.5 pct from a year earlier, the Ministry for Economy said. Economists had been forecasting a month-on-month increase of 0.7 pct and a year-on-year decrease of 7.3 pct. Domestic orders in the whole of Germany were down 1.9 pct in October from September and fell 5.0 pct from a year earlier, while foreign orders climbed 0.5 pct and declined 8.3 pct. The ministry for the first time since June this year, orders from abroad posted an increase. For the two-month period September-October, overall orders fell 4.2 pct compared with the period July-August, with domestic orders down 3.3 pct and orders from abroad fell 5.4 pct.
