24 December 2001, 10:59  Euro, yen at day's lows as Europe looks to holiday

0745 GMT - Euro stuck near session low just below $0.89 , close to Friday's trough hit after traders cut exposure to single currency ahead of holiday. - Yen also near session low and close to Friday's 3-year trough around 129.70 per dollar . - Asian trade listless with Tokyo closed. Yen got some support when Japanese trade minister Takeo Hiranuma was quoted as saying weaker yen had "positive and negative" aspects for economy and it wasn't desirable to see the currency fall further. - Many European centres on half or full day holiday ahead of Christmas break.
