12 December 2001, 11:17  The dollar drifted lower vs most major currencies

at the close Tuesday, with scant mention of the Federal Reserve Bank statement made only hours earlier. Dollar-yen closed at Y126.07 and the euro-dollar at $0.8927, both not far from midday levels. One U.S. trader said he looked for the dollar to weaken vs the euro in January as weak Q4 U.S. corporate earnings begin to weigh on both the greenback and equities. Dollar-yen saw some additional profit taking ahead of this evening's release of the Tankan sentiment index for large manufacturers.
