7 November 2001, 17:06  FWN: Dollar moves higher after stronger-than-expected US data

LONDON (FWN) - The dollar moved higher after a higher-than-expected outturn in the US third quarter non-farm business productivity, dealers said.
At 1.40 pm, the euro was at 0.9014 usd from 0.9030 before the news.
Nonfarm business productivity accelerated in the third quarter, rising at 2.7 pct compared with the 2.2 pct increase in the second quarter - registering the fastest rise since the second quarter of last year.
The closely watched unit labour costs rose more slowly, moderating to 1.8 pct in the third quarter from 2.6 pct in the second quarter.
Dealers said the dollar's gains may be temporary as the data does not account for the full impact of the Sept 11 attacks on the US.
Market focus remains on tomorrow's rate decisions in the euro-zone and the UK, they added.
