13 November 2001, 17:12 [DJ] Redbook: Retail Sales: Mixed Results, Some Below Plan
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Retailers reported mixed results with some reporting
sales below plan in the U.S. last week.
As a result, Redbook's latest report of national retail sales showed sales
rose 1.7% during the first week of November, after seasonal adjustment from
the same week in October.
The reading was below the target of a month-to-month rise of 2.5%. The report
also showed sales rose 2.3% from the same period year ago, below a 3.1%
target.
"Much of the weakness was concentrated in department stores, which complained
of thinner mall traffic and slower sales," Redbook staff said.
Redbook, formerly LJR Redbook Research and prior to that the Johnson Redbook,
is now a division of Instinet Corporation, a Company.
