12 November 2001, 17:21  German Oct new car registrations 282,000 units, up 9 pct y/y

FRANKFURT (FWN) - Germany's new car registrations in October rose 9 pct to 282,000 units from the year earlier, but those for commercial vehicles fell 4 pct to 24,300 units, the VDA Automotive Industry Association said in its monthly report.
It said domestic new orders for cars were down 4 pct from the same month last year and for the first 10 months they fell 5 pct. This is the lowest level in October since the recession in 1993, VDA said.
New orders for cars from abroad however were "relatively stable" and were up 9 pct from October last year.
Car production was up 9 pct at 477,300 units, while exports grew 6 pct to 320,300 units.
In commercial vehicles, production was up 10 pct at 37,500 and up 13 pct for exports at 26,800.
For January-October period, new car registrations were down 1 pct at 2.836 mln. VDA said demand for commercial vehicles "shrunk dramatically", with new orders for medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles down 15 pct in January-October.
