President Bush confirmed Wednesday that the administration is seeking an economic stimulus package of $60 billion to $75 billion, and said more tax relief is needed to boost consumer confidence as well as business investment. Speaking following a business roundtable in New York with key private sector figures, Bush said, "The federal government has a role to play. "Today Secretary Paul O'Neill testified at Congress, saying that the administration believes that we ought to have $60-$75 billion more of stimulus to encourage consumer confidence, to enhance business investment, as well as to take care of displaced workers." Taking questions from reporters, Bush said, "I know we need to provide more tax relief to individuals to boost consumer confidence." //MarketNews
