The fourth-quarter outlook for U.S. corporate profits sinks by the day, hurt by poor economic sentiment soured further by the Sept. 11 attack. Of roughly 5,000 publicly listed U.S. companies, 246 have already cut projections for the October-December quarter, which is expected to mark the fourth straight quarter of profit contraction.
