23 October 2001, 10:44 U.S. shares rallied sharply Monday
supported by a lack of bad news and cautious hope that a year of aggressive monetary and fiscal stimulus will soon take hold. The Dow Industrials rose 171.19, or 1.9%,
to 9375.30, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 36.57, or 2.1%, to 1707.88.
"The market's growing accustomed to bad news on anthrax. As long as
it's contained, the market's building in more and more resistance,"
said one dealer at a New York firm.
