LONDON (AFX) - UK September retail sales volumes were up 0.2 pct on
a seasonally adjusted basis from August and were up 5.9 pct from a year
earlier, National Statistics said.
The AFX News median of analysts' forecasts was for Septembert sales
volumes to have risen a seasonally-adjusted 0.4 pct from August and 5.9
pct year-on-year.
In the three months to August sales rose an adjusted 1.5 pct on the
previous three months and were up 6.2 pct from a year ago.
NS said the implied deflator for September was at 0.6 compared with
0.7 pct in August.
It added that the September data continue to show growth in the
value of spending. Volumes of sales are also showing growth, although
not as strong as in recent months with growth coming largely from
non-food sales.
Based on non-seasonally adjusted data, the average weekly value of
retail sales in September was 4.06 bln stg, 7.2 pct higher than in
September 2000.
In the three months to September, the value of sales in current
prices was up 6.7 pct compared with the same period a year ago.
