17 October 2001, 09:42 Shiokawa hopes BoJ will make further efforts in developing monetary policy
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said he hopes
the Bank of Japan will make further efforts in developing its monetary
policy.
"I am hoping that the BoJ will make further efforts in its monetary
policy," he told AFX-ASIA.
Earlier, Shiokawa told a Lower House parliamentary committee:
"Although the BoJ is taking monetary easing measures, the effect is
insufficient. We are worried that CPI and the WPI are continuing to
fall."
On the issue of whether the government will issue new bonds, beyond
its 30 trln yen limit, to cover anti-terrorism spending and
expenditures related to bad debt disposals, he said: "It is unclear at
this stage."
