TOKYO, Oct. 16 (Kyodo) - The Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry (METI) said Tuesday it has left unchanged its initial
estimate that Japan's industrial production in August rose 0.8%
compared with the previous month.
The seasonally adjusted index of output at mines and factories
stood at 95.6 against the 1995 base of 100 in the revised report,
unchanged from the preliminary report released late September, it
said.
The index of industrial shipments in August was also left
unchanged at a seasonally adjusted 98.5, up 0.9% from the previous
month, the ministry said.
But the ministry revised upward the month-on-month gain in
industrial inventories in August to 0.3% from 0.1% in the previous
report. The revised index of industrial inventories came to a
seasonally adjusted 99.4, compared with 99.2 in the previous
report.
The inventory ratio in August fell 2.6% from July to a
seasonally adjusted 110.0, instead of the earlier announced 3.1%
drop, the ministry said.
The ministry also said the capacity utilization index in August
rose 0.5% from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted reading
of 92.8.
The index on production capacity in August fell an unadjusted
2.2% from a year earlier to 96.6.
