15 October 2001, 11:15 U.S. share prices ended mostly lower Friday
yet closing the week
firmly higher and recovering from a steep drop at mid-session after a
new anthrax scare. The Dow Industrials ended down 66.29 at 9344.16, but
still gained 2.4 percent on the week and nearer to its 9605 close on
Sept. 10. The S&P 500 ended down 5.78 at 1091.65, only fractionally
under its Sept. 10 close. The Nasdaq Composite did better on the
session, benefiting from strength among chip equipment makers. The index
rose 1.93 to 1703.40, just above its Sept 10 close of 1703.40.
