11 October 2001, 13:23 Japan's used vehicles sales in 1st half fall 0.6%
TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Kyodo) - Sales of used vehicles in the first
half of fiscal 2001 in Japan fell 0.6% from the same period of last
year to 2,652,080, the first decline since 1999 for a fiscal first
half, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Thursday.
Sales of used passenger cars in the first half to Sept. 30 fell
0.4% to 2,263,447, also the first decline since 1999.
However, sales of used cars with engines of more than 2000 cc
rose 5.6% to a record 879,368, up for the 24th straight fiscal year
first half, while those of used smaller cars dipped 3.8% to
1,384,079, for the second year of decline.
Sales of used trucks fell 1.5% from the same six-month period of
last year to 296,000, but those of used buses increased 2.0% to
8,641.
In September, sales of used vehicles fell 7.9% from a year
earlier to 397,201, a turnaround from a 0.6% increase in August.
Sales of used passenger cars in September fell 8.2% from a year
earlier to 338,549, compared with a 0.8% gain in August.
Sales of used cars with engines of more than 2000 cc in
September fell 3.2% to 133,118, while sales of used smaller cars
plunged 11.3% to 205,431.
Sales of used trucks in the month dropped 8.1% to 44,126, but
those of used buses jumped 43.5% to 1,626.
