10 October 2001, 13:22 Hayami - Cabinet ministers made no requests to BoJ on monetary policy
OKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Bank of Japan governor Masaru Hayami said
cabinet ministers made no requests concerning monetary policy to the
BoJ when the government and ruling parties gathered to assess the
latest monetary and economic reports.
"There was no request to the BoJ from cabinet ministers during the
meeting," Hayami told reporters after the meeting.
"However, ministers are showing some interest in the decline in
bank lending," he added.
On the BoJ's policy meeting which starts tomorrow, Hayami said the
board meeting will take place over two days as scheduled.
He added: "The Resolution and Collection Corp can procure necessary
funds to finance purchases of bad loans from banks through the
financial markets," meaning there is no need for injections of public
funds.
