TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said the ministry will consider regulating speculative margin-based short-term traders in the stockmarket after the recent fall in equity prices. He said the move will be taken in cooperation with the Financial Services Agency. "The recent stock price declines seem to have been triggered by speculative market participants so the ministry needs to explore the true reason why the stockmarket is fluctuating so wildly in cooperation with the FSA," Shiokawa said. "My personal view is that the ministry should revise the current minimum margin requirement rates for short-selling purposes," he said.
