"The economic slowdown started last summer, right in the middle of our campaign. And growth is anemic. It's been about one percent for the year, and that's very disappointing," Bush told reporters. Asked when the economy would turnaround, Bush replied: "I hope soon. But I'm not a forecaster, and evidently there are not many good forecasters around."
