3 September 2001, 10:17 Japan, US to hold bilateral talks on auto trade - report
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Takeo
Hiranuma and US Trade Representative Robert Zoellick have agreed to
hold bilateral talks to discuss the auto trade, the Nihon Keizai
Shimbun reported, citing diplomatic sources.
Bilateral talks on auto trade issues have not been held since the
Japan-US accord on auto market-opening measures, which was signed in
1995, expired late last year.
The representatives have agreed to hold a working-level meeting
about once a year, in addition to the new round of bilateral economic
talks the two governments decided on in June, it said.
