27 September 2001, 11:30  US Tsy's O'Neill Repeats, Recovery Delayed

U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said Wednesday the terrorist attacks this month has delayed by one quarter the economic recovery that had been underway. "The recovery has been slowed by a quarter or so," O'Neill said, pointing to the administration's own economic forecasts which factor in the economic stimulus that has already been put in place since the September 11 events, and noting that the recovery had been underway. Speaking to reporters prior to a meeting with leading CEOs in New York, O'Neill noted that the stimulus included a $40 billion emergency spending package, and $5 billion in immediate aide to the airlines.
