17 September 2001, 16:34  [FWN] Nasdaq's Bailar sees 'normal' trading day

Paris -- Sept. 17 (FWN) - Nasdaq's executive vice president for operations and technology Gregor Bailar said no opening delays are expected on the Nasdaq today and that he expects a "normal trading day". In a conference call, he said none of Nasdaq's systems were damaged in last week's terrorist attack and that its messaging traffic was tested over the weekend to almost double the capacity of its peak day this year, when 3 bln shares changed hands. He said the index would only close if it becomes clear that a large portion of the market is unable to gain access.
