TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Salaried household spending in July fell 0.4 pct year-on-year, marking its fourth straight month of decline, the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications said. In June, spending fell 3.0 pct year-on-year. A ministry official said even though the fall in salaried household spending narrowed in July, it is still early to say that household spending is currently recovering. "The fall in July was not high ... but it is necessary to see figures after August to assess the trend," the official said. Bonuses in July fell, after a rise in June, the official said, adding that the fall also provided a negative impact on salaried household spending. Extraordinary income fell 5.3 pct year-on-year due to a fall in bonuses, the official said. "In July, mid- and small-scale firms tended to pay bonuses, which decreased from a year earlier. That seems to have provided a negative impact on spending," he added.
