29 August 2001, 11:27  Italy 2001 budget deficit seen 75 trln lire vs 93 previous forecast - report

MILAN (AFX) - The budget deficit for 2001 is expected to come in at 75 trln lire, down 18 trln from the 93 trln deficit forecast in the government's DPEF economic and financial programme issued last month, daily Corriere della Sera reported without citing sources. It said the government will book a 3 trln lire surplus in August, while the deficit for the first eight months is now being forecast at 43.5 trln. The deficit is likely to widen again later in the year, it said.
