2 August 2001, 08:23 LDP's Kyuma - Govt may prepare for extra budget to boost demand
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - The ruling Liberal Democratic Party's acting
policy chief Fumio Kyuma said the government will have to prepare for a
supplementary budget for the year to March 2002 to boost domestic
demand.
"I believe the government will have to move to compile a
supplementary budget, given the current weak demand," Kyuma told
reporters after a meeting of the party's policy decision making panel
to discuss budget plans.
"The supplementary budget will include employment measures but at
present there is no fixed idea of how much should be spent," he said.
"At today's meeting, many members expressed scepticism about the
government's policy to contain its new bond issuance within 30 trln yen
in the next fiscal year."
"The victory in the Upper House election justified Koizumi's
policies."
Separately, former acting policy chief Hisaoki Kamei said the
government should extend the term of unemployment insurance to five
years from 330 days at present.
