London, Aug 16 (BridgeNews) - U.K. retail sales growth picked up again in July after a flat monthly performance in June, with sales volumes rising 0.6% on the month and 6.0% on the year, the Office for National Statistics said Thursday. This growth was in line with analysts' expectations. The main driver of the volume growth was non-food sector sales, most notably in textile, clothing and footwear stores, the ONS said.
Sales in textile, clothing and footwear stores rose 1.3% on the month and 11.8% on the year. The yearly rise was the highest since records began in 1986.
Retail sales values also climbed, rising an unadjusted 6.4% on the year, below the 6.9% yearly growth recorded in June. The value growth came about largely as a result of food sales.
