6 July 2001, 11:19 In US stocks, Dow ended the session down about 91 points
while the Nasdaq ended off almost 61 points but volumes were light. Tone
for the day was set by UK electronics firm Marconi which saw its stock
hammered by over 50% after its dramatic profit warning overnight. That
news depressed US tech issues leading to the spread of red ink. Dow
losers included Boeing (announced small sales in June) as well as GM,
GE, Home Depot, Microsoft and Walmart. Bucking the trend, SBC
Communications and Honeywell posted gains. On the Nasdaq, losers
included Dell, Sun-Micro, Symantec, Nextel and Veritas Software all
traded down on the day. S&P 500 ended down 15 points.
