5 July 2001, 09:30 Japan May leading economy index rises to 71.4 from 33.3 in April
Tokyo, July 5 (BridgeNews) - Japan's index of leading indicators,
which shows economic conditions two to six months ahead, rose to 71.4 in
May from 33.3 in April, the Cabinet Office said. The index of coincident
indicators, which roughly shows current economic conditions, climbed to
25.0 in May from 10.0 in April. The leading index reached above the
critical 50.0 "boom-or-bust" level in May for the first time since
December when the index was at 63.6.
