4 July 2001, 14:04 Euro zone May PPI up 0.2 pct vs April, up 3.6 pct yr-on-yr
BRUSSELS (AFX) - The euro zone's industrial producer prices index
rose 0.2 pct in May from April and was up 3.6 pct year-on-year, the EU
statistics office Eurostat said.
In the EU-15, May producer prices rose 0.2 pct from April and were
up 3.3 pct from a year earlier.
Eurostat noted that in April the euro zone's PPI had risen 0.3 pct
from March and was up 4.2 pct year-on-year, revised from 4.1 pct.
In the EU-15 the April PPI was up 0.2 from March and 3.7 pct
year-on-year, revised from 3.6, it said.
In the euro zone, compared with the previous month, it said
intermediate goods rose 0.4 pct, capital goods were unchanged, durable
consumer goods rose 0.1 pct, and non-durable consumer goods 0.2 pct, it
said.
Compared with a year earlier, euro zone intermediate goods prices
were up 4.7 pct, capital goods 1.0, durable consumer goods 2.2, and
non-durable consumer goods 3.7 pct, it said.
In the EU, intermediate goods prices rose 0.5 pct from April,
capital goods were unchanged, durable consumer goods rose 0.1, and
non-durable consumer goods 0.3 pct, it said.
Compared with a year before, EU intermediate goods prices were up
4.8 pct, capital goods 0.4, durable consumer goods 1.8 and non-durable
consumer goods 3.3 pct, it said.
Among member states, the sharpest monthly rises were Finland up 0.7
pct, France up 0.5 pct, Ireland and Sweden, both up 0.4, but Italy's
prices fell by 0.4 pct.
The sharpest annual rises were in Portugal, up 5.5 pct, the
Netherlands up 5.4 pct and Germany up 4.6 pct. The lowest rise was in
the UK with 1.3 pct.
